Prostate Remedy

Enlarged prostate symptoms are sometimes a sign of BPH.

BPH stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia (pronounced "be-NINE prah-STAT-ik HY-per-PLAY-zha"). Benign means not cancerous, and hyperplasia means too much growth. The result is that the prostate becomes enlarged. Having BPH symptoms does not mean you have cancer nor does it mean you will get cancer. BPH is not linked to prostate cancer and does not increase the chances of getting prostate cancer. But BPH symptoms and prostate cancer symptoms can be similar.

In order to shrink prostate size certain drugs may be prescribed as a prostate remedy. Some the more common drugs that are used as a prostate remedy include:

5-Alpha-Reductase Inhibitors

A drug such as finasteride prevents the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone which is the hormone that causes BPH symptoms. As a prostate remedy, this can shrink prostate size by over 20%. If the use of the Finasteride is discontinued the enlarged prostate symptoms may reappear within a few weeks.

Hormones

Just how hormones effect enlarged prostate symptoms is not totally understood. A prostate remedy of synthetic progestogen (gestronol) treatment is sometimes administered by injection every 5 to 7 days. Other hormones including flutamide and cyproterone are used as a prostate remedy to shrink prostate size by 25% but unfortunately, they do little to improve the urinary flow rate. Medical experts doubt that any single hormone can shrink prostate size.

Natural Treatments

There are a number of phyto-therapy natural plant based prostate remedy treatments used for BPH symptoms that can shrink prostate size. Some can shrink prostate size, some soften up the prostate gland to open up the urethra tube and others relax muscle fibres and reduce spasms of the prostate and bladder.

In Europe natural plant products are frequently used as a prostate remedy to shrink prostate size. In Italy and France 40% of men are treated with natural plant extracts to shrink prostate size. In Germany 95% of men with enlarged prostate symptoms are treated with phytotherapy to shrink prostate size.

Some of these natural plant based prostate remedy products that are used to shrink prostate size include: Golden Rod, African Prune, Rye Pollen extracts, South African stargrass and American Dwarf. Those men using Rye Pollen extracts experienced a 65% improvement in overall BPH symptoms and were able to shrink prostate size by up to 30%.
